Rihanna has showed up enjoying herself in sunny Thailand, only to become the center of a scandal involving the exploitation of a protected species of primates. The Bangkok Post reported on Sept. 23, 2013, "Two arrested over Rihanna loris pic." On Monday Thai authorities said two men were arrested on suspicion of possessing a protected primate after Rihanna posted a picture of herself online holding a slow loris, which is considered an endangered species.
Rihanna apparently did not realize that the use of the animal as a prop for tourist photos is illegal, when she posed with the tiny, large-eyed slow loris while she was out one night in the tourist resort of Phuket. The photo was posted on Twitter and Instagram. The image was captioned "Look who was talkin dirty to me!" This created outrage from animal lovers who are concerned about rampant exploitation of animals with tourists and prompted a quick response from Thai authorities.
ABC News has reported on an Associated Press story, "Rihanna Poses With Protected Primate in Thailand." While on a break from her Diamonds World Tour, Rihanna visited the Thai island of Phuket, where she was presented with the wildlife. An Instagram photo, which she also shared on Twitter, showed her in sunglasses warming up to a furry primate called the slow loris. The slow loris is listed as a protected species in Thailand. Well, let's at least hope Rihanna still enjoyed her stay in the alluring country of Thailand.
