It's all out in the open now: Rihanna has announced that she wants to have a baby -- with Chris Brown. In a recent interview with Elle UK magazine, where MTV News reported on March 1 that the Barbadian pop singer got two covers for April, she opened up about her apparently full-on relationship with the R&B singer that once brutally beat her and left her at the side of street. And what she said in the cover story won't be welcome news to those familiar with the cycles of domestic violence, but it is Rihanna's life, so fans and detractors alike will have to simply live with it.
“I will probably have a kid," the "Diamonds" singer says, according to Hollywood Life. "And I’m praying I can go on vacation for a good month. And I’ll have set some things up so I don’t have to tour for the rest of my life, even though I love touring. I want health and happiness in five years. I want to be healthy and happy.”
Her goals are attainable. And given Rihanna's success, she can pursue that happiness and a healthy lifestyle wherever and with whomever she chooses. But there will be many who will note that it is unlikely that either will be obtainable with Brown in her life.
But Rihanna is optimistic.
“Now that we’re adults we can do this right,” the singer told Elle UK. “We got a fresh start and I’m thankful for that. Right now that’s just want we want, a great friendship that is unbreakable.”
But many no doubt would like to remind Rihanna that the two were adults when Brown repeatedly struck her to the point of unrecognizability on Feb. 8, 2009, just hours before the two were to appear at the Grammy Awards. Brown was nearly 20, Rihanna just a few days shy of 21.
Apparently she has convinced herself that four years ago, the two of them were still post-adolescent kids playing at being adults. Or something like that...
Brown is still on probation for assaulting his then-girlfriend (and now-girlfriend). He would later admit to the brutal beating and be sentenced to take domestic violence awareness classes, do over a hundred hours of community service, and be issued a restraining order that precluded his getting near Rihanna.
He is presently fighting charges that he never completed his community service, that much of the documentation was faked. Prosecutors allege Brown was even in the state of Virginia (where his community service was to be carried out) on some of the occasions where records say that he was. Brown's attorney maintains that the allegations are false. There will be a hearing on the matter in April.
Rihanna accompanied Brown to his last hearing, where prosecutors made their claims. She reportedly blew kisses at the singer in support.
Regardless of their stormy past and no little pubic condemnation of their relationship, Rihanna now says Chris Brown is the guy for her.
She says, The Sun reveals, that her latest single, "Stay," "is a story about having love that’s close and wanting it to last forever. You don’t have that feeling with everybody so when you have it you don’t want to let got of it. I would definitely say that he [Chris] is the one I have that kind of relationship with.”
So there you have it. Rihanna plans to continue her relationship with Brown. She wants to have a baby and, given that Chris Brown is "the one," it would seem most likely she wants to have that child with the "Don't Judge Me" singer. She wants to be healthy, happy, and go on vacation, stop touring for a while.
All with the man that cruelly beat her four years ago, a man who may not have even done more than a few photo ops to meet the requirements of his sentencing (if prosecutors are correct in that he faked much of the documentation) and who has shown no signs of becoming less violent (see: bar fight with Drake and assault of Frank Ocean).
Good luck with that good health and happiness goal...
