Following the altering of former Victoria's Secret model, Gisele Bundchen's H&M ad in Dubai, the oil-rich country of Kuwait has begun to take notice of what they consider overly sexy American advertising. Pop star Rihanna's first perfume, Reb'l Fleur (pronouced as Rebel) is not only a great selling celebrity perfume, but also has caused controversy...just like the singer herself.
Kuwaiti newspapers digitally changed the ads for Rihanna's perfume in which the singer is shown romantically smelling a pink rose with an open robe. In the mostly Muslim state, the singer's robe has been photoshopped "closed" in order to make the ad more appealing to Kuwaiti women. Sales of American products are very important in Kuwait, as it is listed as the 5th richest country in the world with a U.S. per capita income of $81,000 per year.
With her April 29th appearance at Macy's Herald Square in New York City raking in $60K in sales in one day for the perfume, Rihanna has already mentioned on Twitter that she is working on her 2nd fragrance which is currently unnamed. At Monday evening's MET Gala, Rihanna tweeted..."Wore the sample last night. And all the fly girls wanted some."
The online video ad campaign for Reb' Fleur featuring the rebellious singer is also quite a hit for fans of RiRi. It features both the "good" and the "bad" sides of the singer, with the tagline..."Good feels so Bad. Bad feels so Good."
