There is music in the air and summer has arrived. Lady Gaga and Rihanna took to their respective stages in New York City to perform before throngs of fans on Friday, kicking off the summer concert tours of two major morning shows.
Rihanna took to the stage in Rockefeller Plaza for the morning show Today. With a grand entrance and a chance to be close to the fans, the mini stage surrounded by a flood of fans was definitely a moment. Singing several songs from her latest album ‘Loud’ the entertainer had fans dancing with ‘California Bed and ‘S&M.’ One couldn’t tell it was so early in the morning as the concert was high energy and definitely a great way to kick off the concert series.
Only blocks away another superstar was performing, but this was for the Good Morning America Show. Lady Gaga came to her stage with a grand entrance as well for her show in Central Park. Gliding over the crowd on a zipline, the performer took to the stage after flying about 150 feet in the air. Taking the microphone, the Lady Gaga sang from her latest album, ‘Born this Way.’
Both of the performances kicked off popular segments for the shows summer music concert series and both offered free tickets to the public. Each concert garnered at least 500 people (who had wristbands or tickets) and many more who just came to hear live music and see if they could catch a glimpse.
In a routine that will start happening every week during the summer, performers from all genres will go to New York to perform for either show. And in some cases, like last year, they will perform for both shows in one morning (but at different times.)
