Rights group urging 'five phone calls for freedom’

“‘Barry’ plans to ‘out-grassroots’ you. Will you let him?” Rights Watch International asks in an alert sent out to supporters this morning. This is the group behind the National Coalition to Stop the Gun Ban, an alliance of national and state level groups defending the right to keep and bear arms in the wake of a renewed gun-grabber feeding frenzy.

They’re warning about Organizing for Action, “the nonprofit that inherited Obama’s campaign infrastructure and two-million strong volunteer army,” that Gun Rights Examiner reported about last Thursday, asking readers to make sure “gun violence” stories being solicited by the group included incidents where gun use prevented violence, and incidents where the violence with guns was perpetrated by state actors.

It’s all part of an unfolding plan to “mobilize … his army of left-wing activists to push for federal gun bans,” the group continues.

“What you are seeing is ‘Barry the Community Organizer’ doing what he does best,” they explain, “Attacking your rights using millions of rabid radicals who will stoop to any level of deceit in order to control you. The grass roots initiative began with his State of the Union address, in which he packed the house with families of victims of mass killings. Next, Obama went on the road to sell his plan ...

“Now MoveOn.org is joining the fray by running TV ads that proclaim, ‘The NRA doesn’t speak for me,’” the alert adds, referring to the deceptive political commercial highlighted in this column, where I challenged the notion that “a proud defender of the Second Amendment” would have anything to do with assisting in its evisceration.

“Your voice is need now more than ever,” the alert pleads, telling supporters “You have politicians scared.”

True, but so does Obama and this unprecedented all-fronts assault on firearms freedoms, as evidenced by GOP Quislings preparing to cave. RWI says “immediate action [is] required,” and asks gun owners to “make ‘five phone calls for freedom.’

“To fight back against this left wing attack, we are asking millions of Second Amendment supporters represented by the Coalition and others to deliver a loud and clear message to Congress by making five phone calls on Monday and Tuesday (Feb. 25 and 26),” they advise. “Please note that we said CALL, not email. We want millions of voices to ring through the congressional switchboard, so please note that you might have to try several times to get through.

Specifically, they are asking us to call:

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell at 202-224-2541

House Speaker John Boehner at 202-225-0600

Both of your U.S. Senators. To identify them, go to: http://www.senate.gov/general/cont act_information/senators_cfm.cfm and choose your state from the drop down menu.

Your representative to the U.S. House. To identify your US House representative, go to: http://www.house.gov/representatives/ and then enter your zip code in the upper right corner of the page

They then provide three talking points to give Congressional staff:

Nothing about the federal proposals is acceptable – not banning semi-automatic firearms and magazines, not expanding the list of people prohibited from owning guns, and not registering private gun sales via the National Instant Check System;

Because “compromise” means losing freedom, you will not “compromise” on this issue, including any “lite” version of registering private sales through the National Instant Check System; and

As a member of one of the organizations comprising the National Coalition to Stop the Gun Ban, you will support coordinated Coalition action against any legislator who supports gun control.

“If you have additional time, please CALL all other US House representatives in your state’s delegation, who can be identified by going to: http://www.house.gov/representatives/ and scrolling down to your state of residence,” they urge.

This is consistent with recommendations presented in this column, which condemned compromising as unnecessary, and phrased its similar message to political representatives by warning:

WE WON’T STAND FOR SCAPEGOATING

NO NEW GUN LAWS

DENY SUCCESS TO MASS MURDERERS BY ABOLISHING PHONY ‘GUN-FREE’ VICTIM / KILLER ENABLING ZONES NOW

WORK WITH US OR WE WILL WORK TO RETIRE YOU

Unfortunately, this is a case where being loud matters. If you won’t do this, and if you won’t become a force multiplier and urge others to join us, then you’ll be closing a door on using political tools which your enemies will happily deploy against you.

There are all kinds of excuses not to get involved, including, my “favorite,” your representatives are anti-gun so there’s no use in even trying -- fine, that doesn’t mean you can’t contact McConnell and Boehner, and then identify and contact some fence-sitters instead, and that’s still no excuse for not making others aware of this effort. Face it -- asking us to make a few phone calls and share a few links is no great burden. How much greater will be asking us to defy, and ultimately resist citizen disarmament? And why would someone who won’t lift a finger now, when things are easy, believe they’ll have what it takes if and when the choice boils down to real sacrifices or surrender?
