Video games are competing head to head with traditional forms of entertainment, including television and cinema. Nothing new about that. With an enormous global market, the video game business expands to new heights and the next generation of gamers are lining up due to savvy marketing and a high entertainment value/cost ratio.
Of course, big business means that the legal issues surrounding the video game industry are many. If you're thinking about practicing law in the field or just have a general interest, you will want to attend the November 19 event, The Rights and Economics of Video Game Law.
Patrick Sweeney, is counsel at Nixon Peabody, LLP and focuses on new media business transactions. Mr. Sweeney has extensive experience in the video game industry and served as general counsel for the video game publisher, Brash Entertainment which specialized in the production and distribution of properties based on major motion pictures. Mr. Sweeney will discuss the various types of deals in the video game industry and the economics of same. The night will end with a brief discussion of the latest games, hardware, and trends in mobile and digital gaming, followed by Q & A.
Presented by the Entertainment Law and Intellectual Property Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Light hors d’ouevres will be served and drinks will be available at the no host bar. Space is very limited and attendees must register in advance no later than November 18. Prospective at-the-door registrants take the risk of being turned away.
