An MRI confirmed that Michael Waltrip Racing’s Martin Truex Jr. suffered a scaphoid fracture and sprain of his right wrist when he was involved in an accident at Bristol Motor Speedway Saturday night, it was announced today.
The wreck began when Denny Hamlin cut a tire after contact with Brian Vickers on Lap 448 involving a number of cars including Truex and Kevin Harvick.
Truex, 33, has been cleared by NASCAR to drive this Sunday in Atlanta and the remaining 11 Sprint Cup races after being fitted with a special cast that he will wear indefinitely. The cast enables him to better grip the steering wheel.
The Mayetta, New Jersey native is currently 14th in points after finishing 35th in the Irwin Tools Night Race, but holds the first Wild Card spot courtesy of his win at Sonoma.
NASCAR Notes: NASCAR has reinstated former Nationwide Series crew member Robert (Robbie) S. Harrison upon his successful completion of the body's Substance Abuse Policy Road to Recovery Program. Harrison had been indefinitely suspended on May 30, 2013 for violating NASCAR's substance abuse policy.
