Ridley Scott and Machima to partner on new science fiction short films

Video entertainment network Machima is teaming up with Academy Award winning filmmaker Ridley Scott to produce a dozen sci-fi shorts with an eye towards developing the most successful of them into features. The partnership will focus on building original high octane science fiction content leveraging Machinima’s reach and combining it with the filmmaking expertise of Ridley Scott and Associates.

Machinima is the dominant video entertainment network for young males around the world. It is the number one entertainment channel on YouTube with over 2.6 billion video views per month. The network features scripted series, original content, weekly and daily shows, official publisher content, and gameplay videos, all aimed at the coveted 18-34 year old male demographic.

Machima brought the “Mortal Kombat” franchise back to life with its “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” series. The trailer launch for season 2 of the “Mortal Kombat: Legacy” series, developed and produced by Warner Bros., generated over 2 million views in the first 48 hours.

Ridley Scott recently turned 75, but clearly the director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner” is still willing to embrace cutting edge material.
