Dec. 7,8,14,15,22,23: Indiana Transportation Museum Polar Bear Express still has a few openings, but several runs are already sold out (link).
Dec. 27-28: Indiana Transportation Museum allows the kids to help Santa get home to the North Pole on the train. The museum itself is closed for the season, but the train will be making this special (1/2 hour) run. Make your reservations today (link). Located in Noblesville, figure an hour or so drive, depending on your route and traffic.
December weekends: Whitewater Valley Railroad has a variety of options for rides. One of the more popular run is to Metamora for the Christmas on the canal. Located in Connersville, 2 ½ drive depending on traffic. Check out the options(link).
Unfortunately, French Lick’s Polar Express is sold out for this season. This ride sells out pretty quickly so plan for a weekend next year and get reservations in around October (link).
Now through Jan. 19: Jingle Rails at Eiteljorg Museum is a perennial favorite. The O scale layout features trains leaving downtown Indy headed out west. Western national parks are their destination, and scale models of those parks’ famous features are part of the layout. Admission to the museum includes the Jingle Rails exhibit (link).
