If you haven’t booked your Christmas train runs, you should do so soon. Many of the runs are already booked.
Dec. 6-8, 14-17: Linden Depot doesn’t have rides, but they have a custom made 10’ tall Nutcracker! This year, a donation of 10$ gets you a Christmas ornament of the Nutcracker. Close to home, this great little museum features some awesome train layouts and Monon memorabilia. Need Christmas or birthday gifts for the railfan in your life? They have small gift shop with a great variety of items (and prices). Museum fees are waived for this special event. (They will accept donations though.) New website (link), please note, Google brings up the old website.
Dec. 7,8,14,15: Hesston Steam Museum will be open and the Candy Cane Express will be running (link). Bring a toy for the Toys for Tots and get a free ride. Hesston Train Museum is a little over 2 hours away, 15 minutes from New Buffalo Michigan, 15 minutes north of LaPorte Indiana. Remember, they are on Chicago time.
Dec. 14: Hoosier Valley Railroad Museum will turn their train ride into a Santa ride (link). This is a great little museum and ride. Located in North Judson, it is about 1 ¾ hour drive from IN43 & I65. On the way back, check out Jasper Pulaski to see if there are some late sand hill cranes still hanging around. Stop on the way back for a great meal at the Whistle Stop Restaurant and check out the train museum there (link).
