Will it be a “Ridge to Bridge” or “Bridge to Ridge,” hike for you this year? On Saturday, April 27, Bay Area Ridge Trail holds their annual “Ridge to Bridge” event, but adds a couple of new twists. There are four options for those who want to hike along the Marin or San Francisco shorelines. (Bicyclists and equestrians can find details about their routes on the Ridge trail website.)
Hikers, choose the length and other features of your route among these excellent offerings.
- The 26- or 20-mile hikes of the “Ridge to Bridge” follow part of the Coast View Trail; you'll be getting a preview of the future Ridge Trail route through the area. (These two hikes are currently “wait listed.”)
- 15-mile hikers do their “Ridge to Bridge” partially on the Dias Ridge Trail--the first time for this route.
- 10-milers will do a “Bridge to Ridge” (reverse) hike, from the Presidio (S.F.) to the Tennessee Valley (Marin). There they'll have a lunch feast, with a shuttle back. This new route has great views of the city and San Francisco Bay.
This is a fully-supported event with spectacular scenery on long stretches of Ridge Trail. You’ll enjoy a gourmet lunch mid-day, a T-shirt and maps, rest stops, and a shuttle back (hikers and bikers) to your starting point at the end of your hike. All hikes go across the Golden Gate Bridge, and this year hikers and cyclists travel on separate sides of the bridge!
Bridge to Ridge is a fund-raiser with top notch prizes for top fund-raisers. You could win an overnight stay at Cavallo Point, the Lodge at the Golden Gate, a kayaking or climbing class and outing from REI Outdoor School, a bike rack or trainer from Saris Cycling, or great outdoor gear from REI.
Registration Fees Hikers and Cyclists: $50 (students under 25 with ID), $115 (until March 31), $125 late registration (April 1 - April 25).
Registration Fees: Equestrians: $75 General Registration (until March 31), $75 Late Registration (April 1 - April 25)
