On Friday, March 26, from 6-9PM, there will be a benefit concert at 3rd and Lindsley. The benefit concert is being put on by Ride For Reading (a non-profit organization that provides books to children of low-income families) and will feature artists such as Sean McConnell, Megan James, and Ashley Ray. Tickets are just $10 in advance, but if you wait to buy them at the door they'll be $15. To purchase tickets, click here.

“This is Ride For Reading’s biggest fundraiser of the year. We’re so excited to be able to share a night of great music for the sake of literacy in our community. It’s going to be a great night.” -- Mathew Portell - Founder of Ride for Reading

All proceeds from the concert will go towards Ride for Reading. Around 9:30 AM on Friday, March 26, Paragon Elementary School will be receiving a visit from cyclists of Ride for Reading. The students there will receive books from the organization.

Ride For Reading was established in February of 2008 by Mathew Portell, an avid bicyclist and 4th grade teacher. The goal of the organization is to distribute books to children who are unable to afford books of their own. So far the organization has donated over 15,000 books to children!

They are supported by several professional cyclists such as Erin Mirabella (a children's book author and Olympic cyclist) and Team Niner (a professional mountain bike team).

"I wanted to write children's books so I could share my Olympic experiences and lessons with kids. I want to share these with all kids, not just the ones who are lucky enough to have books at home and parents who read to them. Ride for Reading makes that possible. What better gift, than the gift of reading; through books you can give kids the whole world.” -- Erin Mirabella

Ride For Reading is also partnered with some of Nashville's bike shops and other local, as well as national, businesses. They have been featured in The Tennessean, Nashville Parent, International Mountain Bike Magazine, Mountain Bike Action, and now Examiner!
