Hoping to generate more buzz and more ridership, Houston's B-cycle program will offer a free 24-hour pass to riders during the weekend of Friday, October 12th to Sunday, October 14th.
Well, at least that's what the large print says… the small print says that if you enter the promotional code 1234 when you sign our one of the big red Trek bikes, the standard five-dollar membership fee for a 24-hour period will be waived. You'll still have to swipe a credit card at the B-cycle kiosk, and you'll get charged the normal rates for checking out a bike for more than an hour - that's two bucks for every thirty minutes beyond the first hour.
For more information about where B-cycle kiosks can be found, visit the official Houston B-cycle website, where you'll find a city map detailing the locations. You'll have to zoom in on the very center of town, however - areas more than a couple of miles from downtown aren't served by this program. But if you want to get from Discovery Green to the Heights or from the Medical Center to City Hall, you're golden. Oh, and a tip for new riders: if the seat's on backwards, the last rider says the bike is in need of repair.
