I believe too high of expectations are formulated when audience members attend the premiere to a movie sequel. They automatically judge the film against its predecessors. For the new movie, Riddick, if those expectations were left at home, any fan of Science Fiction and/or Horror movies would thoroughly enjoy this movie.
Luckily for this film franchise, expectations are not too high to begin with. You would never hear someone comment that Pitch Black was the best Sci-Fi Horror movie ever made. But most fans do admit that the premise and directing style of both Pitch Black and The Chronicles of Riddick were certainly entertaining and not the usual futuristic type of movie. The same standards are set with this third film of the franchise, Riddick.
It is a somewhat simple story with pleasantly choreographed special effects, raw action sequences, and corny but acceptable acting performances.
Many films tend to get too caught up in making a certain movie more than it is. Riddick knows what it is and delivers what it should.
For a simple, entertaining, and fun movie for the Sci-Fi Horror fans out there, this movie will definitely not disappoint.
