As a native of Brooklyn, New York, Ricky-Tan was born into a world of hip hop music and surrounded by some of the greatest lyricist to ever enter the game. At an adolescent age he fell in love with hip hop and that love grew into a burning passion that would drive him to make serious adult decisions about the direction of his life; when most adults have no idea - he knew.
When Ricky-Tan was just a child he and his family re-rooted themselves into the heart of Connecticut, the capital city of Hartford. Like many stars on the rise, Ricky-Tan fought his way through adversity never letting anything get in the way of his dreams. He took the obstacles as lessons and focused all his energy into his work. With some inspiration from his peers at the tender age of 17 Ricky-Tan began his musical journey as a rapper.
Ricky-Tan was a featured artist on S.Q. Record's label, after ending an independent contract deal with Shadow Ryders / Shadow World ENT. Today Ricky-Tan is an unsigned artist who writes and produces his own music. He is also the co-founder of Edge Master's Entertainment, a label that he and his brother founded together.
Ricky-Tan has been featured on several mixtapes across the country. He did a drop called, G-Money, an intro for Hot 93.7; Connecticut's most recognized hip hop and R&B station which has received over 500 hits on his MySpace page. Utilizing outlets like MySpace has brought a lot of attention to his music receiving over 27,000 page views and over 19,000 plays of his music overall has helped him increase his audience.
With songs like, Weatherman, that showcases his cleaver and witty lyrics to, Life of da Party, featuring Ru Williams - one of Connecticut's R&B sensations, Ricky-Tan shows he not only has substance in his music but also variety which is essential to making it in the music industry. In May 2009 Ricky-Tan released his first mixtape, "Sumthin Bout Da Hart-Beat", which has gotten impressive reviews from fans and critics. He is now in the process of working on his next mixtape, "The Manhattan Project", in collaboration with another artist on his label, Ill Khemyst.
Ricky-Tan's lyrics are sultry, exciting, raw and gritty. As a producer his beats sound crisp, clean and industry ready. He is truly an artist on the rise. Ricky-Tan is not waiting for the industry to come to him; with his own record label he is not only making a way for himself but he is helping others achieve their dreams as well.
