Amir Khan has been looking for a big name to put on his resume as of late, and Juan Manuel Marquez is just that kind of name. Dangerous and famous enough to make the fight a decent seller, but manageable enough for the larger Khan to look good against at the same time.
A win over Marquez would finally lift Khan among the best fighters in the world, and he would start to be considered for fights against the likes of the Mayweathers and Mosleys of the world. (This would include the Pacquiao's as well, but since the two train together, a bout is essentially ruled out).
The only problem that Khan faces to his plan is that Marquez is already rumored to be in talks with the other British Welterweight on the world scene, Ricky Hatton. Khan speaking to the DailyMail, said:
‘I think it would be a tough fight for Ricky to come back straight into after his last defeat. I would have thought he would take one easy fight to get back into it. But this is a tough one."

The other possible opponent for Marquez, Ricky Hatton will be looking to come back with a big fight after his semi retirement since early this year. Concentrating on promoting and putting on a lot weight since his last fight, Hatton will need a while to get back into shape if he is serious about a comeback.
Marquez was apparently the one who initiated dialog of a possible fight with Hatton, which bodes well for him rather than Khan being the one to face him. Either man at their best will give Marquez a lot of problems, not least because of the pair of them both having decent size and reach advantages over the Mexican.
All three men in this interesting troika are viewed as somewhat damaged goods despite being at varying stages of their careers. Khan, the youngest at 22 has yet to live up to his full potential and has been accused of taking easy fights since his shock knockout loss to Breidis Prescott back in 2008. A win over either Marquez or Hatton would put him among the divisions best fighters, and would allow him to chase bigger pay days and fights in the future.
Hatton, coming off two big losses but now moving into the second phase of his career will be looking to make a name for himself again by beating Marquez or Khan impressively. The question is whether he can get himself back into the right shape and mentality for another tough fight which either Khan or Marquez are sure to bring him.
Marquez, the eldest at 36 is probably the closest to retirement, but at the same time holds the most reputable titles of the three. Losses against bigger and younger opponents here isn't so disastrous for Marquez because he was at a disadvantage to begin with, and always has his other titles to fall back on and defend.
The best way for the three to proceed might be for all of three to fight one another. If Marquez or Hatton lose both fights, then they should consider retirement. If Khan loses both fights, then his card will be marked as someone not at the level of the bets in the division, and he will have to limit his opponents accordingly. The marketing practically writes itself for these fights, with each one potentially being a last chance saloon for all three fighters.

It is good that you did not belabor the fact that Khan was KOd by Prescott. Any boxer can get caught by a perfect punch & get KTFO. I don't see that as being such a terrible thing. Mike Tyson had the same thing happen to him and nobody went around questioning his chin.
The same thing happened to Pacquiao when he fought Torrecampo. He got caught flush on the chin & got KTFO. Too much also is made of Pacquiao being KOd by a body punch later in his career. IN that fight he had failed to make weight for a title defense and got hit to an obviously weakened midsection. His midsection and resistance to body shots is now a strength and not a weakness.
Nobody can defend against the perfect shot to the chin. There is no training anywhere that can overcome physics & the human body so I do not believe Khan has a questionable chin. It is no stronger or weaker than any other human chin.
Amir Khan and Ricky Hatton are worthy opponents of Juan Manuel Marquez for his next fight..either of the two will be a tough fight for JMM because he is coming from a loss in the hands of Floyd Mayweather..they are also a world class fighter, this match-up will be a big test for JMM boxing career if he still in his prime..
Khan needs to go in against a few Mexican meat grinders before we know if he's any good. Get on the plane and come over to the U.S.
if hatton and marquez fight will come into fruition this fight will be dubbed as "LOSER VS LOSER,WHO WILL BECOME THE LOSER OF THEM ALL".............
Its better if marquez fight khan and hatton and beat them so he'll be the mexican to be called great english executioner.
to Jerry Lynch.. Pacquiao has always had a good chin, his two knockout losses were related to weight loss. To Torrecampo, he was unfocused and didnt bother losing weight for the fight so he had to wear heavier gloves. He almost had Torrecampo out in the 2nd round if only he had lighter gloves. For his second loss, he could not make the weight and didnt eat for the week of the fight, so he came in weight-drained in the truest sense, not the fake DeLa Hoya excuse kind. Pacquiao had always had a good chin, whereas we know Khan has always had a glass chin being put on the canvas by featherfist punchers. You just cant survive as a boxer in the higher levels if you can't take a punch, especially now that they know this, Roach is wise to steer Khan to fights with fighters who do not have a high KO percentage or who are no threat, ie, Barrera.
Tama na yan. Matulog na kayo. Hehehe
i would like to see amir khan against ricky hatton. marquez seems to be washed up as a fighter. he only wants publication and make money. he can never be like manny who attained so much in his boxing career. i think that marquez should remain in the lower class division and he doesn't have any business or whatsoever to go higher. he doesn't belong there. mabuhay manny!
I think Khan should not fight those guys instead fight the winner of the Juan Diaz vs. Paulie Maliggnagi fight or timothy bradley for a unification bout.. It makes more lucrative for his career. he doesn't need to fight losers like hatton and marquez. Instead this two fight each other and the winner will have the 2nd chance for glory again..
To Jerry Lynch, ali's chin is better than khan's, he took perfect shots from frazier a few times in the chin
i wanna see khan fighting either hatton or marquez but its better if we have hatton vs marquez 1st bec. they r both losers and they r still jealous for all the achievements of the filipino boxer "pacman". who ever lose with these two should retire for good.
jerry...comeon man...cottoo was hit by a perfect left uppercut by manny,,,aND MANAGED TO BEAT the ten sec.count,,,this two overhyped british foghter,,got no chin,,,end of story,,and to the WRITER...please dont say that,,this two have a big chance of outclassing marquez,,thats very cheap..bro.britains top two domestic fighter,,fighting one of the worlds best fighter with a very good chin...dream on...
Re: Rastaman
I don't think Marquez would be outclassed by either, but I think the size and reach would make it difficult for him to win either one. He could catch Amir and even Ricky, but I think both would be big favorites.
only way Marquez will loose is if he fight both together at the same time.Pacquiao is the only man who could beat him
these puckers should fight Cotto! But maywaether is the grestest of all time!
juan diaz was winning in the score cards against marquez until that KO...diaz doesn't have a KO power. now, imagine if hatton, who somehow fights like diaz (pure brawler)would land his punches to marquez
the title of mayweather-pacquiao fight should be "the exciting fighter vs the boring fighter" or "the chaser and the runner" or "well-cooked vs over-cooked" or "the ugly vs ugly". here's the truth mayweather jr is afraid to fight pacquiao because he knows that pacquiao never gets tired, throws a lot of hard punches and is quicker than him!!! mayweather jr is afraid to die in the ring!!! look what happened to me when i fought pacquiao i almost died!!!
THE TITLE OF THE MATCH BETWEEN MANNY AND FLOYD SHOULD BE = THE ICON VS EX-CON.
Mayweather will dance his way to a decision over the pac, the fight will not be entertaining, floyd is a precautionary fighter he is not going to be exchanging at will, he is smart, pac will be doing the chasing around, weather might stand in the middle in the beginning to test the waters, but will adjust to do what he has to do to win the fight, he wont care if people say its boring he will get paid either way and decision the PAC, people wont like it, but come sunday ill be done with. The PPV numbers will do good and the fight of the century will not be action packed like some people think.
i think alot of people are discounting JMM after his loss to Mayweather. But in my opinion i think he still has alot of fight left in him. I dont think he really had any chance of beating mayweather due to the weight height and reach differences. So i dont really see it as a loss by JMM only a missed chance to gain the fame he deserves
To call JMM a washed out fighter is nothing but a load of bullocks. JMM deserves as much respect as most of the top fighters as he is currently on the top ten p4p listing. I am a big Pac fan and loved watching their fights both go the distance! If Pac doesn't want to do a third fight with JMM just imagine how much more trouble he would have give Pac if he were in his prime!
I think he should fight with Khan first as it would be a great proving ground for the young fighter and since JMM is nearing retirement he should fight Hatton thereafter for a "Loser Retire" bout.
Regardless whether he wins or loses these matches, he will always be one of the strongest p4p challenger in this modern era! A little respect for JMM...
