Prior to going on my first Rick Steves tour in May 2013 (Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina), I attended the Rick Steves' Travel Festival in Edmonds. It was both entertaining and informative, and the speaker for the session on Croatia and Slovenia was Cameron Hewitt, co-author of Rick Steves' Croatia & Slovenia guide book.
Saturday, October 26 is the autumn edition of the Rick Steves' Travel Festival in Edmonds. The all-day European travel show features 10 free classes with slideshows offering tips, insights and new discoveries. Rick Steves will be teaching four of the classes: European Travel Skills, Packing Light & Right, Italy and Europe 101: Art & History for Travelers.
The day also includes classes on France, Spain, Turkey, Germany-Austria-Switzerland, Croatia-Slovenia and Great Britain. Classes run from 9 AM to 9 PM at the Edmonds Center for the Arts (two blocks north of the Rick Steves' Travel Center) and the Edmonds Theater. All are in downtown Edmonds, within walking distance of each other. The festival is free, but online registration is required. The Edmonds Travel Center will be open for extended hours, 9 AM to 7 PM. There will be discounts for Travel Festival attendees.
If you can't make it to Edmonds, you can watch the travel classes live on the free Travel Festival webcast (no registration required). Here's the webcast schedule:
- 9AM - European Travel Skills
- 11:30AM - Packing Light and Right
- 2 PM - France
- 4:30 PM - Italy
- 7 PM - Europe 101: Art & History for Travelers
