Rick Springfield's tell all book reveals struggles with depression,suicide and sexual infidelities.

Rick Spring has written a new autobiography entitled "Late,Late at Night", where the 61-year old former pop superstar candidly opens up about his life.

In the book Springfield openly shares the details of suffering from severe depression, claiming that when he was 17-years old he was so miserable that he attempted to take his own life by hanging himself, fortunately for the singer the noose he had tried to hang to his death on let loose before doing the job.

During this dark period of Rick's life, he wrote he did not just attempt suicide, that he was committed to suicide and wanted very much to die."Having suicide ride on my shoulders was not a lot of fun through a lot of my life and surviving that was a real high point for me."

In the 1970's, Springfield moved to California to pursue his music career and eventually shacked up with 15-year-old Exorcist star Linda Blair. All before Springfield would successfully become a teen heartthrob in 1981 at the age of 31.

In 1981 Rick Springfield blasted out on the top of the charts with his hit song "Jessie's Girl". On October 13, 2010, Rick appeared as a guest on the daytime tv talk show "The View" and revealing that the song had a lot of truth in the lyrics.

Rick admits that this is a true life experience and had a friend during this time who's name was Gary, He had fallen for his pal's girl, so he put his yearnings into a words and music. Rick stated that he had attempted to use his friends name in the song, but that the name Gary just did not work well. So, he changed the name from Gary to Jessie after realized at the time that he was wearing his favorite football Jersey with Ron Jessie's name on it. That is "why the name is spelled like the female version of the name instead of the male reveals Springfield.

Wonder if Gary and Rick are still pals? Laurie P. of Cincinnati stated "Rick Springfield looks good, I did not realize until The View's interview that he suffered from such a deep depression, that he had tried to kill himself. That is terribly sad. Every time I hear "Jessie's Girl" I sing along, who doesn't love that tune?"
