The concert on the night of Aug. 20 is the first time Rick has performed in his home turf in about five years. He’s taking a break from his grueling tour to help his friend Ruben Velasco, a guitarist who was diagnosed with stage four cancer.

Rick is always around to help out a friend, and I’ve seen him help out with children at hospitals outside of the glare of the cameras.

(On a personal note, I’ve known Rick for a long time and we once went with his family and a few other celebs to the Galapagos Islands together.)

He say, “Ruben has a lot of medical expenses coming up in his fight. This concert promises a lot of surprises.”

Already the concert at the House of Blues on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles will have a lot of talent worth far more than the price. There are a limited amount of VIP Benefactor Packages, and even if you cannot attend, there are ways to help out by purchasing some of the great signed guitars and more online. (See details on this link:

Rick and his band will play a full set, and then there will be appearances by John 5 (Rob Zombie), Bruce Kulick (KISS), Elliot Easton (The Cars), legendary drummer Kenny Aronoff and many more surprises.

The ROCK FOR RUBEN charity costs $55 for general admission tickets and there are VIP super-tickets, too.

Rick recently had to cancel a trip to his homeland of Australia because he’s set to play opposite multiple-Oscar winner Meryl Streep in a movie in October. Even though he ticked off a few fans because he’s not played “home” in more than three decades, he apologized via Twitter for canceling the show.

The movie, “Ricki and the Flash” is being penned by Diablo Cody, who now lives in Studio City, Calif. and wrote “Juno.” The movie also co-stars Kevin Kline and is being directed by Jonathan Demme who won an Oscar for directing “Silence of the Lambs.” In the story of the movie, Meryl plays an aging rocker who ignored her family and Rick is playing her younger guitarist who has a crush on her.

He wrote about canceling the Oct. 14 date: "Sorry to all my Aussie fans. I was so looking forward to playing for you for the first time in 30 years. I promise to make it up to you next year. In the meantime, this movie is a great opportunity. It's not every day that Meryl Streep and Jonathan Demme come calling."

After getting some negative feedback, he added, “This movie with Meryl Streep is a great opportunity and I will make it up to anyone who is bummed out. Dinner perhaps? A movie? A little cuddling after? Come on! As my favorite band once said, "We can work it out!" And we will, I promise. Sorry again for any trouble. XOXO --RS”

Rick says, “You know, if Meryl Streep and Jonathan Demme wanted me to wash their cars I would have cancelled my Hawaiian vacation and bought my own soap and bucket.”

Rick is riding high after his intimate autobiography, “Late, Late at Night” and his new sci-fi book “Magnificent Vibration: A Novel.” (See what character in his novel you are by taking the quiz here:
