Today Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder officially began his bid for reelection the way he started his political career – with a television ad. However this time the self-proclaimed “successful nerd” did not use the Super Bowl. This time his ad, “Michigan is Back,” was launched on the Internet.
Snyder told supporters about the commercial in a Tuesday afternoon email to his supporters.
“When I first ran for Governor in 2010,” he wrote, “I gave ten priorities for reinventing Michigan. Including growing more and better jobs, reforming Michigan’s tax system, fixing broken government, and creating an environment that will keep our youth – our future – in Michigan.”
The campaign, at least in the early stages, will focus on the successes of Michigan during his first term. When Snyder took office he inherited an eight-year recession complete with a large deficit. Snyder’s administration was able to wipe out the deficit completely and turn the economy into it best performance in ten years.
“In record time Michigan is back on a solid foundation”, said Snyder. “But there is much more work to do”
He also set three goals for the next term:
- A return to vocational training
- Lower cost college degrees
- Michigan companies helping Michigan companies create Michigan jobs.
