Rick Santorum suspended his campaign for president almost a month ago, and had held off on endorsing the presumed Republican front-runner, Mitt Romney. He sent an email out to his supporters late Monday evening telling his supporters that the fight against President Obama needed to be "all hands on deck". The endorsement of Romney was buried deeply within his sentiment filled message.

Santorum shared that he had a meeting with Mitt Romney on Friday in Pittsburgh. During the meeting (which lasted for over an hour), Santorum discussed with Romney the reasons he had held back on an endorsement.

I felt that it was completely impossible for me to even consider an endorsement until after a meeting to discuss issues critical to those of us who often feel our voices are not heard by the establishment: social conservatives, tea-party supporters, lower and middle income working families.

Santorum stated that Romney has a deep understanding of economic policies and pro-family initiatives. Santorum discussed how the re-election of President Obama is "simply not an option", emphasizing that President Obama "must be defeated".

It will require all hands on deck if our nominee is to be victorious. Governor Romney will be that nominee and he has my endorsement and support to win this the most critical election of our lifetime.

Santorum finished stating that he plans to keep communicating with Romney during the difficult campaign ahead. Santorum's campaign remains in debt after his failed run for the Republican nomination. Only Ron Paul and Mitt Romney remain in the Republican race for the presidential nomination.
