Rick Santorum compares Nelson Mandela to Obamacare fight

Chief among the symptoms of the far-right's frequently mocked detachment from reality is a tendency to think themselves comparable to anyone, anywhere (except for slave owners, Communists and Nazis, to which their opponents are always comparable instead).

Rick Santorum demonstrated this by Rick Santorum, who, in the wake of the news that South African human rights icon Nelson Mandela had passed away, declared that his life's work to end apartheid was comparable to the Tea Party's mission to overturn the Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act.

Appearing as a guest on The O'Reilly Factor, Santorum asserted that "He was fighting against some great injustice, and I would make the argument that we have a great injustice going on right now in this country with an ever-increasing size of government that is taking over and controlling people’s lives — and Obamacare is front and center in that."

Back in reality, the end of apartheid in South Africa, under which a non-elected ruling minority committed outright atrocities, and the Affordable Care Act in the United States, a legal measure approved by both Houses and upheld by the Supreme Court for the purpose of providing healthcare to millions, only have one thing in common: They both came to pass accompanied by the sound of a small minority of dumb bigoted white people squealing like pigs.
