Rick Santorum: Abortion and porn are symptoms of indoctrination in college

Never one to back to down from his beliefs, the former senator and 2012 Republican presidential candidate, Rick Santorum, continued his radical ways while speaking to the Family Research Council this week.

During a speech to the Family Research Council, a radical social conservative and evangelical Christian organization, Rick Santorum spoke about the alleged evils of public colleges, universities and Hollywood. According to Right Wing Watch, Santorum believes that "Jesus Christ" has been pushed aside and that is the reason for much of the country's problems.

“Less and less people here in America, you know, and believe in God, and believe in Jesus Christ, and believe in truth and right and wrong....It’s understandable, I mean, if you certainly, if you look at popular culture and what comes out of Hollywood, if you go to our schools and particularly our colleges and universities, they are indoctrinating in a sea of relativism and a sea of antagonism toward Christianity."

Santorum continued, referring to abortion and porn as a "symptom" of moving away from "God" and religion.

"Abortion is a symptom, marriage is a symptom, I mean, pornography is. All of these are symptoms to the fundamental issue that we've gotten away from the truth and the Truth-Giver.”

While the United States is moving away from the extremes of religion, most Americans still identify themselves as being part of a religion one way or another. Rick Santorum and his views on these particular issues are one of the main reasons many people are pushing back at religion, in particular, conservative Christianity.

Though jobs and the economy were the focal point of the 2012 election, social issues, such as abortion and LGBT rights, were also an important topic. Until the Republican party and extreme religious conservatives stop pushing their beliefs on others, the country will continue to move away from what the religious right are fighting for.
