Many remember the critically acclaimed 2005 film Brokeback Mountain starring Jake Gyllenhaal and the late Heath Ledger. The movie chronicled the trajectory of two gay cowboys’ closeted love affair and their lives.
As irony would have it, Texas Governor and presidential candidate Rick Perry released a new ad in which he takes a shot at President Obama for allowing LGBT to serve openly in the military and hedging a “war on religion”…all while donning a jacket identical to that of Ledger’s gay cowboy.
In the ad, Perry states:
“I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a Christian. But you don’t have to be in the pew every Sunday to know that there’s something wrong in this country when gays can serve openly in the military, but our kids can’t openly celebrate Christmas or pray in school. As president, I’ll end Obama’s war on religion, and I’ll fight against liberal attacks on our religious heritage.”
With Christmas steadfastly approaching, I feel perplexed that I have yet to feel the wrath of “liberal attacks” as I scurry to finish shopping for gifts. Was there a memo I missed about being shunned for celebrating the holiday? It must have gotten lost somewhere in my spam box…
