Rick Harrison, star of "Pawn Stars" on the History channel is expanding his pawn store, Gold & Silver Pawn Shop. He wants to perk up the area, by adding some pizzazz to the street where his business is located.
Rick's pawnshop is located near several bail bond offices and a closed tattoo parlor. It might seem like the perfect location for a pawn shop, but Rick wants to transform the street into something spectacular and fun.
Rick plans on spending $2 million to make his store plaza resemble a Rubik's Cube. The plans show the modular units will fit together like a Rubik's cube in the traditional colors of blue, yellow, orange, red, green and purple.
Once shoppers step inside, they can do things while they wait in line. Rick plans on having 22 different stores. The customers can eat. they can choose between six different restaurants. Or the shoppers can go shopping in at least 16 different retail shops.
General manager of the pawn store, Theo Spyer said, "We have always tried to improve our customer experience while waiting in line." Apparently they have misters, benches and a hot dog stand at the premises. "Now we intend to take it to the next level. We are currently working on a line system that will enable the fans to patronize Pawn Star Plaza without losing their position in line."
Rick has been buying up land in the area next to his pawn store. In 1992, rick bought the land that his pawn shop sits on, for $250,000. In 1994, he purchased the parking lot parcel for another $250,000. He bought more land in 2005 when he bought two more land parcels for $1 million each.
Rick isn't planning on asking the city for redevelopment money toward his project. By doing it his way, Rick believes that his dream plaza will be built in a short amount of time.Xtreme Cubes System built by Xtreme Manufacturing, a company owned by Las Vegan Don Ahern.
So, why does Rick want to expand his business into something bigger. Because he wants to make more money. He laughingly told the Las Vegas Review Journal, “And making money is my third or fourth most favorite thing in the world."
