Last year I wrote a little article about an up and coming film director, Rick Greenwood. At the time he was getting ready to receive his Master of Fine Arts degree from the New York Film Academy. He was also working on his short film “Hinnon Valley.” I suggested that Rick Greenwood seemed to be the kind of man who would become a major player in the movie making world. Well he hasn’t received any Oscars – yet.
But his signature film, “Hinnon Valley” was an official selection of the California International Shorts Film Festival. “Hinnon Valley” also won Best SFX Make-up at the Los Angeles Reel Film Festival and also received an Honorable Mention from the Los Angeles Reel Film Festival. Already this is way more than most films and film makers ever achieve.
“Hinnon Valley” was accepted by the Atlanta Horror Film Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. It will be screened there Saturday, September 17th 2011 appropriately enough at midnight.
“Hinnon Valley” has also been accepted by the Burbank International Film Festival and is scheduled to be screened during the Noon block of films on Sunday, September 18th 2011 at the AMC 6 theater in Burbank, California. Could it be the winner? Well I have never claimed any psychic powers but I have seen the film and it does have a superb level of quality in the horror genre. The production values are up to major studio quality. The story is intriguing and overall the acting was well done. You should drop by to see the film. There will be others shown as well and to have gotten to this level you will likely be very pleased with the whole package.
But what is ahead for Rick? With this excellent start out the gate I still see huge success in his future. He is in pre production on several projects including two feature films. Any one of these projects has the potential to drive Rick’s career to exciting new levels. These things take time yet eating and having a place to sleep requires immediate attention so currently Rick is helping a very major professional athlete learn the fine art of film making on the Universal Studios back lot. I assure you were I to mention the athletes name you would instantly recognize the name but I was asked by Rick to respect his student’s privacy and so I shall.
Alas the film making business is one of the toughest there is. It can also be one of the most rewarding not only financially but creatively and personally as well. Rick Greenwood is in my opinion one man who will end up at the top of the Hollywood elite. So I thought it appropriate to revisit his accomplishments over the past year or so. Besides with the overwhelming deluge of horrible news these days, I thought we could all enjoy something positive for a change.
