Grandparents and parents often find themselves spending so much of their time with grandchildren or children, caring for their own parents, or tending to other family matters, that they have little time left over for anything else. But finding time to do something for others and volunteering can be a great way to enhance life and feel even better about how you spend your time.

It can also provide a much needed respite from the daily cares of caregiving or from the stressors of life.

Stitchers for a Cause offers opportunity

Stitchers for a Cause offers a great opportunity for grandparents or any other adults to volunteer and make a difference in the lives of others. They make quilts, wheelchair/walker bags, pillowcases, and many other items for donations to hospitals, nursing homes, free clinics, foster child services, and other places. They are filling an extremely important need in Richmond, Virginia and the surrounding communities.

No experience needed

Stitchers for a Cause requires no experience and they accept anyone willing to volunteer. They need help sewing, qulting, and stitching, but they also need help sorting fabric, iron binding, and doing piece work for the quilters.

No matter the skill level, there is something for everyone and every helping hand is welcome and appreciated. This is the perfect opportunity to mentor a child or grandchild too. When they observe adults volunteering their time, it leaves a lifelong impression on children. There are even tasks that can be performed by older children.

Donations needed

In addition to needing help, they also accept donations of fabric, knitting yarn, sewing machines, and sewing supplies. No donation is too small.

Meeting each Thursday in Glen Allen

Stitchers for a Cause meets each Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  They are happy to have you drop in any time since it's important to work your schedule around family needs, jobs, doctor's appointments, and other daily activities. It's not necessary to attend every session so you can determine what's best for your schedule.

The volunteer group meets at the Glen Allen Church of Christ, 11064 Staples Mill Road, Glen Allen, Virginia just outside Richmond. They are located just off I-295 East on Staples Mill Road.

Volunteering is a way to do something helpful for others while doing something good for yourself too.
