Dana Frostick’s mixed media pieces, combinations of paintings and drawings, are not created with preconceived ideas, according to an artist statement provided by Visual Art Studio.
“Into the Blue,” was created without cameras or computers.
“My goal is to allow the artwork to control its eventual outcome,” Frostick said in a statement to the gallery.
Frostick, born and raised in Richmond, begins her drawings using a Sharpie marker, and welcomes accidents and imperfections in the art.
“For me, the process of creation involves coaxing order out of chaos,” Frostick said. “It represents the battle between fate and chance.”
Frostick, who was a student at Virginia Commonwealth University in the 1980s and majored in sculpture, added in her artist statement that blue has been a dominant color in her work.
“Into the Blue” will be on display through Friday, April 11.
February marks the 17th anniversary of Visual Art Studio in its current location.
