Monday October 14, 2013, has seen Michael Waltrip Racing announce the decision to drop to only two full time teams in the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup following the loss of NAPA Auto Parts as a primary sponsor.
Team owners Michael Waltrip and Rob Kauffman are said to have told their employees this morning that they are free to begin looking for new jobs immediately following their decision to only run two full teams and having dropped Martin Truex Jr.'s car schedule to only a partial one for next season according to news sources from ESPN.
The loss of NAPA comes after the fallout of MWR having tried to influence the final results of NASCAR's race in Richmond that would have seen Truex make the final cut for the Race to the Chase in the latter part of the season.
There are rumors that Truex could be looking to leave MWR following his car's schedule being cut in half for next season. However, following his own involvement in the Richmond debacle as well, Truex could have a hard time finding a new home if he does part ways.
