Quirk Gallery’s three exhibit spaces are devoted during the month of August to three Richmond natives.
In Quirk’s main gallery is Chris Milk’s “Canopy,” a collection of works of house paint on wood.
In a press release, the gallery said that “Canopy” is the artist’s ode to love, music and life in storyboards.
“From the houses to the skies, to the birds in between, “Canopy” explores the oft forgotten beauty of everyday life. Chris Milk brings this smart, yet uncomplicated, world to Quirk Gallery,” the press release stated.
In the gallery’s Shop Show this month, Tim Skirven’s new illustrations in a variety of media “feature his unique and distinctive graphics, text and design."
Daniel Crawford’s love of nature and the great outdoors is on exhibit in The Vault.
Antlers in brightly-colored resin and patches of embroidery are the latest works from Crawford, one of three Richmond artists at Quirk Gallery in August.
Chris Semtner, curator of the Edgar Allen Poe Museum and author of books about Poe, will be the featured artist in September at Visual Art Studio.
A reception will be held for Semtner on First Friday September 5, from 7 to 10 p.m.
“Into the Void” is a collection of 12 new medium and small acrylic paintings.
According to a press release by the gallery, Semtner will be available at both the First Friday in September and October.
“After reading a good poem, the world the reader sees seems changed, becoming somehow more profound and magical,” the artist said in a statement to the gallery. “In the same way, a good painting can change the way the viewer sees the otherwise overlooked elements of the world around him-imbuing the real world with a new sense of mystery and wonder.”
Semtner said in the statement that that is how he wants viewers to feel after seeing his paintings in “Into the Void,” which closes Friday, October 31.
