SEATTLE – Richard Sherman believes he is the best cornerback in the NFL. He may not be the best, though he is certainly in the discussion, but he is definitely the loudest and most animated. On Sunday, Sherman’s mouth struck again after the Seattle Seahawks defeated the San Francisco 49ers 23-17 to punch their ticket to Super Bowl XLVIII.
Sherman’s antics began in the game’s final moments, when he tipped a potential game-winning touchdown pass intended for 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree and turned the play interception for linebacker Malcolm Smith. Sherman drew a flag after the play for unsportsmanlike conduct, which came as a result of a two-handed choking gesture he made towards Crabtree.
“Richard, let me ask you, the final play,” Andrews said. “Take me through it.”
“Well, I’m the best corner in the game!” Sherman shouted. “When you try me with a sorry receiver like Crabtree that’s the result you’re gonna get! Don’t you ever talk about me!”
“Who was talking about you?” Andrews asked.
“Crabtree!” Sherman yelled. “Don’t you open your mouth about the best! Or I’m gonna shut it for you real quick!”
With his team headed to the Meadowlands in New Jersey for a Super Bowl matchup with the Denver Broncos, Sherman stands poised to continue delivering bold statements throughout the next two weeks.
