Richard Mack calls for anti-gay uprising in Utah

Sadly, the trend of calling for violent uprisings over trivial political ambitions continues to spread.

The latest to do so is Richard Mack of the inappropriately named Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association, who organized a Saturday meeting in Highland, Utah, to call for an uprising in response to a federal judge having struck down the state's ban on same-sex marriage.

Once again, Mack's argument sums up as an insistence that, if the government does not allow him to violate or the rights of others (or in this case, to deny them altogether), that means his rights are being violated.

"The people of Utah have rights, too, not just the homosexuals," Mack said during the meeting. "The homosexuals are shoving their agenda down our throats."

Mack also attacked Gov. Gary Herbert (R), whom he claimed had failed the people of Utah.

"State sovereignty supersedes what this judge did," Mack said. "The Governor needs to get some courage and grip."

Back in that pesky little thing called reality, "some courage and grip" is precisely what allowed the gay marriage ban to be lifted to begin with.

Mack, like many people, demonstrates an inability, not only to adhere to his faith unless it is enforced as law, but also to recognize that the Constitution protects non-adherents to the faith as well.
