Richard Burton's first wife Sybil Christopher dead at age 83

Film and stage icon Richard Burton's first wife Sybil Christopher has died at the age of 83. MSN reported on Wednesday, March 13 that Christopher's obituary was posted on The Bay Street Theater website, stating that the first Mrs. Richard Burton had passed away last Thursday in New York.

Best known as the first love, and wife of Richard Burton, the Welsh-born Sybil Burton- Christopher left for California soon after Richard Burton left for her Hollywood beauty Elizabeth Taylor in 1963.

Sybil Burton mending her broken -heart opened a nightclub in 1965 with the financial help of close friends Julie Andrews and Leonard Bernstein,which she called Arthur. The nightclub became a big hit and famous hangout of sorts for the celebrity elite.

Sybil Burton following her divorce from Richard Burton wed her nightclub's house band lead singer Jordan Christopher in 1966.

Richard Burton's first wife Sybil found her own success after her marriage to Burton ended, including be the founder the Bay Street Theater in 1991 with two partners and was its artistic director for 22 years.

Sybil Christopher's death comes 10 days after her first husband Richard Burton's plaque was unveiled on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next to Elizabeth Taylor's. She is survived by daughters, Katherine "Kate" Burton, Jessica Burton, and Amy Christopher.
