Another update from busy broadcaster Rich “Spitz” Spedaliere who tells me that he will be hosting
“Coach’s Corner” on WENG 1530AM/107.5 FM featuring Lemon Bay High School head football coach DJ Ogilvie live on Monday nights from 6 to 7 p.m. The show will originate from the Lock-N-Key Restaurant at 2045 N Beach Road in Englewood.
“Spitz” and Ogilvie will recap the previous week’s game and preview the Manta Rays upcoming contest on the show, which will also include other fall sports coaches. In addition, “Coach’s Corner” plans to feature student athletes on the program.
“Spitz” is the play-by-play announcer for Lemon Bay football. WENG will broadcast the Manta Rays games beginning this Friday at 7:00 p.m. He will also host a weekly show “Talking Venice Indians Football” on WENG on Thursday nights from 6 to 7 p.m.
In the glutted NFL pre-game show market, CBS Sports Network will launch its version titled “That Other Pregame Show” Sunday, Sept. 8 (9:00 AM-1:00 PM).
The show is billed as “presenting a unique fan-focused take on all the week’s NFL and college action, headlines and hot-button issues, giving viewers all the latest information as it happens.” Adam Schein, who does a daily radio show on Siriux/XM’s “Mad Dog” channel will host “TOPS” along with NFL veteran Bart Scott, former Oakland Raiders executive Amy Trask, CBS Sports Radio’s Brandon Tierney, fantasy analyst Nathan Zegura and Allie LaForce. “The NFL Today” show crew: Dan Marino, Boomer Esiason, Shannon Sharpe and Bill Cowher will also contribute to the cable-side show.
Diehard college football watchers will be happy to hear that CBS Sports has signed a multi-year deal to broadcast the Mountain West Conference Football Championship Game. The cable channel will air the first title contest on Saturday, December 7 at 10:00 p.m.
CBS Sports Network will telecast 23 games this season in the Mountain West Conference. Beginning this fall, the conference includes: Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming in the Mountain Division and Fresno State, Hawaii, Nevada, San Diego State, San Jose State and UNLV in the West Division.
High school football kicks off the 2013 season this Friday night throughout Tampa Bay. I’ll be broadcasting the Dixie Hollins Rebels vs. Sarasota Sailors Kickoff Classic from Sarasota High School beginning at 7:20 p.m. along with color analyst Ed Schneider.
