Rice University financial aid and costs

Rice University, in Houston, uses a need-blind admission process and meets 100% of a student's financial aid based on financial aid eligibility.

The estimated costs for a student 2011-12 are:

Tuition $34,900

Fees $651

Room and Board $12,270 (3 meals on weekdays and 2 meals on weekend)

Books and Supplies $800*

Personal Expenses $1550*

Total= $50,171

For 2011-12 school year, 97% of freshmen, whose families made less than $80,000 who applied for and received financial aid. For families making $80,000 to $120,000, it was 90% of freshmen. ONly 26% of freshmen applied for and received financial aid if from families making more than $120,000 annually.

Also, all admitted students are considered for Rice merit-based scholarships automatically. No additional applications, forms or interviews are necessary.
