While many may wonder whether Lewis Hamilton’s rebellion against orders to let teammate and arch rival Nico Rosberg pass during the Hungarian Grand Prix at Hungaroring yesterday cost Mercedes the win, there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that race winner Daniel Ricciardo is one of the best F1 drivers in the world. This includes Hamilton, who finished the race in third position,

“Ricciardo is not only one of the nicest guys in the paddock but also one of the best drivers here, for sure. In fact, He's been driving fantastically well from the beginning of the year. So, it's not only now, it's through the whole year he's shown his capability and is going from strength to strength," he stated after the race.

This was Ricciardo’s second win of the season (following the Canadian Grand Prix) making the 25-year-old Austrian only the 9th man to win his first two grand prix races “ from outside the top three in Formula 1 historyt, and the first since Kimi Raikonen accomplished the feat ten years ago. In fact, he is the only non-Mercedes driver to win in 2014 as Hamilton and his arch-rival teammate Nico Rosberg have seesawed between victories all year. It also placed him 3rd in point standings, 43 points ahead of Red Bull’s defending champ Sebastian Vettel.

Ricciardo began the race in 6th position on the grid, but a third pitstop for fresh tires allowed him to pass Fernando Alonso and Hamilton in the final 4 laps to claim victory.

"I was just as hungry for this second one and it feels just as good," he stated. "I am definitely going to celebrate tonight, party for a few days and enjoy a few days off."

His next challenge will be on August 24 with the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamp August 24th.
