RI General Assembly opens for business Tuesday

This week the Rhode Island General Assembly convenes for the 2014 legislative session. On Tuesday, Jan. 07, 2014, both the House of Representatives and the Senate meet to begin their new legislative year.

The Rhode Island General Assembly under the leadership of Speaker of the House Rep. Gordon D. Fox (D, Dist. 4-Providence) and Senate President M. Teresa Paiva Weed (D, Dist. 13- Jamestown, Newport) will meet for approximately six months.

According to a press release issued by the Rhode Island General Assembly’s Legislative News Bureau, the Senate President and the Speaker of the House will open their sessions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

The General Assembly meets regularly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays during the legislative session. These meetings are open to the public and they are viewable in person, online and on television. The sessions are televised on Cox and Full Channel Cable Companies channel 15 and on Verizon Fios channel 34.
