A local story about Central Falls High School received the attention of President Obama on Monday.

The President cited the firing of all 93 teachers, administrators and other staff at the school and called for "accountability" when a school continuously fails its students.

President Obama pointed out that only 7 percent of 11th-graders at the school were proficient in math in 2009.

That figure is indicative of change that needs to be made immediately and Obama made note of that when he spoke about his latest get-tough school proposal at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce on March 1.

According to the teacher’s union, the teachers' $78,000 salary is not enough to get the teachers to agree to some new standards to help the students. The graduation rate in the high school in Central Falls, Rhode Island is at 48 percent.

There are 19-year-old students in classes with 14-year-olds and half way through the school year, 50 percent of students at the school are failing not one, but all of their classes.

Central Falls High School is considered one of the worst performing in the state of Rhode Island with a 48 percent graduation rate.

The firing of the teachers in Rhode Island's smallest and poorest city is making headlines across the nation. President Obama's comments in an already controversial situation have brought it even further to the forefront.
