In typical housewives fashion the ladies go on their annual group trip. Instead of a faraway location like in the past, such as Vegas or Africa, these ladies head to Savannah, GA. Are the housewives on a budget restriction? Not exactly a big getaway. Nonetheless, the ladies load up on a bus and head south.
Once they arrive at the Wedding Cake Mansion, Kandi calls dibs on the extravagant master suite that everyone felt should’ve been for NeNe who planned the trip. NeNe’s friend Mynique, who is the wife of Chuck Smith, former Atlanta Falcons player - tells Phaedra to be on time to the activities because she heard through the grapevine she’s always late.
“I have a newborn. I’m a mama first and I have jobs so I’m offended by it...’cause you don’t know me like that. So don’t get it twisted.” Phaedra shut the discussion down and gave Mynique the side eye. Poor Mynique got put in her place. In other words, she got “read” and Cynthia had to catch her up on the current lingo and what it meant.
The ladies go to the First Baptist Church and get some history on the Underground Railroad and the significant role the church played in the freedom of so many slaves. Porsha shared a touching story stating, “I feel a sense of loss because we can’t go back and find out exactly where we came from.” She then shared, “I marched when I was six years old with my grandfather Hosea Williams. I remember them throwing rocks at me.”
Then she wanted to know who drove the train for the slaves. Dingbat thought The Underground Railroad was an actual rail station. Phaedra and Kandi tried to explain that the railroad wasn’t an actual train, but Porsha’s brain couldn’t comprehend. Hopefully she Googled it later for clarity after the trip.
Mynique puts herself in the hot seat later over cocktails when she begins prying into Kandi’s past with her husband Chuck. Kandi had no intentions of bringing up a relationship from twenty years ago. However, when Mynique insinuates that Kandi and Chuck had a two week relationship and it couldn’t have been all that good. Kandi spills the beans.
Kandi quickly corrected her and mentioned they dated when she was 19 and then again at 21. She broke up with him and she even knew his family and he was tight with Mama Joyce. That should’ve been enough to make Mynique pick her face off the floor, but the other ladies egged it on asking for more details. Kandi also added she was the one who broke up with Chuck and he used to pay her credit card bills after her singing group Xscape broke up.
Kandi also reveals Phaedra used to date Chuck. Phaedra lets the salivating gossipy women know she and Chuck dated in the eighth or ninth grade and then dated a little in college. Mynique was clearly uncomfortable with the newfound information her husband conveniently forgot to share. Out of nowhere Mynique turns on Porsha when Porsha says Chuck hasn’t been truthful about dating these ladies and she needs to ask more questions.
That’ll teach Mynique to bring up some drama in front of all the ladies again. One can only guess that Chuck got an earful when she got home about the misinformation she was given.
Should Kandi have kept her mouth shut? Was Mynique dumb for even bringing it up? Were the ladies wrong for prying?
