Do you want to shoot images of 140 megapixels or greater without having to take out a second mortgage? Well, that is now possible thanks to Rhinocam, which utilizes a Sony NEX sensor, medium format lenses, and a moving sensor mount in order to create images of unbelievable resolution at previously unimaginably low prices.
So, what of this high-resolution wonder?
The secret to how Rhinocam can create such high-resolution images is all in the processing. In the capture process, Rhinocam takes multiple exposures and then combines them using the flat stitching method, avoiding the perspective errors and curvilinear distortion present in images created by the spherical stitching method, which is often found with motorized systems that move both camera body and lens. The end result of Rhinocam's efforts: a panorama or 645 medium format photograph that is over four times the normal resolution of the sensor itself sensor. Utilizing Sony's current NEX sensor results in an image of over 140Mp.
As for other things to like, RhinoCam is compact and lightweight, making it ideal for on-the-go photographers who would otherwise need to transport larger, heavier (and far more expensive) gear out into the field to photograph landscapes. Rhinocam also connects a low cost camera sensor with a medium format lens, meaning that anyone with a compatible medium format system lenses(more later) will not have to buy anything but Rhinocam itself. In addition, Rhinocam allows one to preview the image before taking the shot (can your camera do that?).
RhinoCam is currently compatible with all Sony NEX mount (E-mount) cameras and the following interchangeable lens mounts: Pentax 645, Mamiya 645, and Hasselblad V.
