Rihanna stole the show at Monday’s CFDA Fashion Awards. Attendees nearly forgot about the ceremony itself. They were so preoccupied with the singer's provocative outfit. She appeared to be wearing almost nothing at all.
The 26-year-old singer arrived the fashion gala, hosted by the Council of Fashion Designers of America, in a full length sparkling gown reminiscent of "the Black Pearl" Josephine Baker.
Adam Selman designed Rihanna's stunning gown, which was backless and sparkled with 216,000 Swarovski crystals. The singer donned a baby pink feather boa, gloves and a iridescent turban.
Mel Ottenberg, Rihanna's stylist remarked about the dress to Style.com: “It’s so naked." He went on to say “I don’t know if it’s shocking — I’m with her all the time, so my shock gauge is off — but I told her that I thought she was ready for this dress a while ago, and that I wasn’t. I’m the prude, and I’m just catching up.”
Though Ottenberg might have had reservations, Vogue gave the nearly naked dress rave reviews.
“Fashion should never be frustrating,” Rihanna told the audience during her acceptance speech. She went on to casually remark: “It should be fun.”
