An RG3 knee injury is at the center of controversy a day after the Washington Redskins lost to the Seattle Seahawks in one of Sunday's televised NFL playoffs 2013 wild card games. Robert Griffin III, a strong candidate for NFL rookie of the year, sustained the injury in the late part of the game, and has brought questions over his head coach's move to keep his player in the game when he did.
A report from LA Times on Jan. 6 indicates that there has yet to be any news as far as the MRI on RG3's knee. As of this point though, the prognosis sounds closer to bad than good, as even Griffin himself was not very optimistic about it. He said in post-game comments:
"Honestly, it’s up in the air right now. I know coming off the field I thought it was just the same thing [a ligament sprain]. But right now, we’ll see what it is.
No matter what it is, our season’s over right now, and I’ve just got to make sure that I get back healthy no matter what the injury is."
The controversy comes due to the fact that coach Mike Shanahan left his star, a franchise quarterback for Washington, in the game despite the injury. Shanahan let everyone know post-game that Griffin really makes the decision to play or go to the sidelines. Being the tough-natured and competitive athlete he is, it would be hard to imagine him stopping himself before it was too late.
In Sunday's game, Griffin came out when he was just about unable to walk due to the injury issues. Mike Shanahan is going to continue to receive heat with his team now out of the playoffs, as he seemingly didn't take precautions to make sure the team's future star was safe from more serious injury.
The Washington Redskins played host to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday evening via local CBS affiliate station WDBJ 7. With a 24-14 win, the Seahawks will advance to the NFC divisional games round and take on the Atlanta Falcons. That game airs live in Roanoke on TV at 1 p.m. EST on Sunday, Jan. 13 via FOX affiliate station WFXR 8.
