Tonight's Food Network episode of “Rewrapped” gave three chefs a chance to recreate a staple of food shelves everywhere, Is there anyone out there who has never savored these treats? As Joey Fatone hosts the show, he introduces the chefs on this episode titled, “A Chip Off the Old Block”
The chefs competing tonight are; Patrick Stark, executive chef at Sundown at Granada in Dallas, Texas, Jay Cervone, owner of The French Quarter Food Truck, Hoboken, N.J., Dom Tesoriero, owner of The Mac Truck in N.Y.C.
Today the featured snack food is Herr’s Potato Chips, Barbeque, Cheddar & Sour Cream and Salt & Vinegar.
The judges are; head judge and snack food King Marc Summers, Ed Herr, president of Herr Foods Inc., and Jeff Mauro from The Kitchen on Food Network.
For the first round, the chefs had to recreate those three flavors of Herr’s Potato Chips from scratch in thirty minutes. They immediately ran for the cupboard for the ingredients, each grabbing a different type of potato. Ed Herr knows that certain potatoes make the chips turn brown. Patrick scored 18 points; Jay scored 18 and Dom scored 22 and took the lead.
The innovate challenge was based on taste, appearance and creativity using the Don made BBQ Fried Chicken, Cheesy Grits with Salt & Vinegar Gravy. Patrick made Texas Style Fish & Chips using the BBQ chips for a dry rub, the Salt & Vinegar into the batter and the Cheddar & Sour Cream as a seasoning over fried beets. Jay made Vietnamese Pho Soup using each chip as part of the element of the dish. He used the BBQ in the broth, Cheddar Cheese & Sour Cream to make the noodles and Salt & Vinegar to use as a garnish.
The judges gave Jay a score of 29; Patrick received 25 and Don received 26 for a total of 48, a year’s supply of Herr’s Potato Chips and the title of Rewrapped Champion on this episode of “Rewrapped.”
