Tonight's Food Network episode of “Rewrapped” gave three chefs a chance to recreate a staple of food shelves everywhere, Campbell’s infamous Spaghetti-Os with Meatballs. Is there anyone out there who has never tasted this treat? As Joey Fatone hosts the show, he introduces the chefs.
The chefs competing tonight are; Tomas Monosi, the chef and owner of Tomas Tapas Bar in Wappingers Falls, N.Y., Mikala Brennan, chef and owner of Hula Girl Truck in Washington, D.C. and Eliot Coven, chef and co-owner of Farm Truck Philly in Philadelphia.
The judges are; head judge Marc Summers, Jenny McCoy and the president of Campbell’s Soup Company in the U.S., Ed Carolan.
For the first round, the chefs had to recreate from scratch, this kid food, and the judges will give points based on taste and appearance. For the second round, they must innovate, using Spaghetti-Os as an ingredient making a completely original dish.
For round one, they had thirty minutes. The most difficult part had to be the time it took to make the tiny meatballs; for their pasta, Tomas used fresh pasta and cut the tiny circles and received 17 for his score. Mikala did a great job making it look like the real thing, but the pasta was too al dente; her score was 21. Eliot’s was not vibrant and tasty enough, and he scored 18.
The innovate challenge was based on taste, appearance and creativity using the Spaghetti-Os to create an original dish in 30 minutes. Tomas made paella; Mikala made Spaghetti-Os lettuce wraps using Thai chili sauce, and Eliot made meatball stuffed pierogi with red pepper coulis. As Eliot was about to rinse the sauce from his pasta, he dropped it and there were Spaghetti-Os and meatballs all over the kitchen.
The judges gave Eliot a score of 22; Tomas received a score of 21, and Mikala received 25 and her combined score was 43, and she won a year’s supply of Spaghetti-Os and the title of Rewrapped Champion on this episode of “Rewrapped.”
