Tonight's Food Network episode of “Rewrapped” gave three chefs a chance to recreate the Outback’s Bloomin’ Onion, a treat that has been the bane of dieters for many years. As Joey Fatone hosts the show, he introduces the chefs on this episode titled, “The Awesome Blossom.”

The chefs competing tonight are; Eric Galley, the cook at Pig and Prince in Montclair, N.J., Jackie Borelli, owner of Just Jackie’s Food Truck in Philadelphia and Paul Malvone, co-owner and chef at Boston Burger Company.

The judges are; head judge and snack food king Marc Summers, co-host of The Kitchen, Katie Lee and comedienne and mom and host of Live.Com Carey Reilly.

For the first round, the chefs had to recreate from scratch, this food that just the smell started giving the judges a craving and the sauce that makes it the best. The judges will give points based on taste and appearance. For the second round, they must innovate, using the Bloomin’ Onion as an ingredient making a completely original dish.

For round one, they had thirty minutes. They immediately ran for the onions and started slicing as carefully as possible, so as not to completely separate the petals. Eric received 19 points, as his breading did not stick. Jackie’s was overcooked, and Marc called it burnt, but she also received a 19. Paul’s looked closest to the real thing and the breading stuck, and the sauce was good. He received 28.

The innovate challenge was based on taste, appearance and creativity using an actual Bloomin’ Onion in 30 minutes. Jackie made a Bloomin’ Philly Cheesesteak with Chipotle Sauce. Paul made a Deep Fried Bloomin’ Burger stuffed with Bacon and Onions. Eric made a Vegetarian Taco with Guacamole & Onions.

For the history of the Bloomin’ Onion, Joey told fans that in the beginning, the onion was cut by hand with the precision of a samurai swordsman, but due to its popularity, a machine was invented that now cuts the onion in one swift motion. Today, only certified pros called “Bloomologists” are allowed to prepare the dish, and they make about ten million a year.

The judges gave Eric a score of 20 for his Vegetarian Taco for a total of 39. Jackie received a score of 26 for a total of 45 and Paul received 24 for a total of 52, a year’s supply of Bloomin’ Onions and the title of Rewrapped Champion on this episode of “Rewrapped.”
