Reward offered in parking lot attack on Detroit teen

A reward of $1,000 was put up this weekend for information leading to the arrests of two suspects who allegedly assaulted and robbed a 16-year-old girl in a Royal Oak parking lot adjacent to Detroit. The Oakland County Sheriff’s office is investigating, and wants to generate leads.

The incident happened Wednesday outside a Kroger outlet at 8 Mile Road in Royal Oak Township.

At about 7:15 p.m. that evening, the teen victim had finished shopping and walked through the parking lot to her car. She had just gotten into the driver’s seat when a suspect approached.

The assailant first tried to mace the victim, but she fought back and the suspect dropped the spray.

Then the suspect struck the victim and stole her cell phone.

The role of the second suspect is not clear.

Both men took off on foot across 8 Mile, into Detroit. Police followed the men but could not find them.

Police describe both suspects as black males. One is 18-25 years old with a light complexion, thin build, between 5’5”-5’9” tall.

The other is 14-18 years old, with a medium to dark complexion, between 5’4”-5’6” in height.
