Residents in Crisfield are outraged at the senseless torture of two cats found last week on Richardson Ave., north of Standard Ave. A $625 reward has been offered by the Humane Society in Somerset County.
The Crisfield-Somerset County Times reported one of the stray cats was drenched in diesel fuel, and the other cat was slashed from "hip to hip" on the morning of Sept. 28.
Director of the Humane Society in Somerset County, Jack Mills calls this the worst case of animal cruelty he has ever seen in the community.
"The cats once healed will be up for adoption. Both are pure white. The one with the fuel on it is not doing well as the chemicals have gotten into the organs. The slashed one had surgery to clean out the infection and has several drain tubes in its wound. Dr Giza will take it home for the weekend to keep and eye on it. Hopefully both cats will pull through."
Tragically, the one cat who had been doused in diesel fuel was humanely euthanized because of the extent of her injuries and the suffering she had endured, The other cat remains on life support.
Experts suspect the culprits involved may have scratch marks on them. If you have any information about this horrific crime, please call the Humane Society at (410)-651-2424.
The organization is calling out to the public to help with the surviving cat's medical bills. You can find more information about donating by clicking here.
