On April 7, 2010 The Baltimore Sun reported Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) seeks information about abusers of a dog on Easter Sunday. A group of children, believed to be about 12 or 13-years old, were witnessed throwing bricks and rocks at a one-year old dog tied out on Greenspring Avenue near the elementary school.
The dog, now named Christy, was taken to BARCS where she received treatment for severe injuries. The multiple wounds included several on the top of her head, snout, both nostrils, hemorrhages in both eyes, and her front paw.
The Baltimore City Bureau of Animal Control is currently investigating this case. Rewards totaling $6,000 are now offered for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction in the case of Christy. The Humane Society of the United States and PETA each offer up to $2,500, and The Snyder Foundation for Animals offers $1,000. Anyone with information should call 410-396-4698.
Donations to BARCS can be made via PayPal. Checks and money orders should be made out to "Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc." and sent to the following address:
