Chicago police have released a description of a suspect wanted for questioning in the murder of off-duty Chicago Police Officer Michael Bailey.
The description is on the latest Crimestoppers flyer.
Crimestoppers has joined the growing list of organizations donating money to a reward fund in the case. With the $1000 from Crimestoppers, the reward now stands at $130,450.
The suspect is described as a black male, 18-24 years old, about 6' 0" tall and weighing 160 pounds. Police say he has a medium dark complexion and a short fade haircut. He was seen running from the scene wearing a white t-shirt and blue jean shorts and had a large orange-brown belt hanging from his pants.
Office Bailey has just returned home from work at 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 18. He parked in front of his home on the 7400 block of South Evans and was cleaning the windows of his new car when he was approached by an offender and shot. Police think the man may have been trying to steal Bailey's car.
It's somewhat disheartening that no one is on custody 12 days after the murder but police are hopeful the unusually large reward offered will prompt someone with information to come forward.
Meanwhile, a reward in excess of $10,000 still stands for information on the August 13, 2008 murder of Chicago Police Officer Robert Soto. He was shot and killed on the 3000 block of Franklin Boulevard at 1:30 a.m. after he returned home from work.
