The Hangover stars Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms.
The Hangover is an absolutely crude, lewd and unapologetic film and it's hilarious. Where The Hangover absolutely excels is that unlike many comedies it uses its very own filmic nature and cinematic elements to make it funnier. The entire premise allows it its freedom which makes it as funny as inventive as it is.
The Hangover tells the tale of four friends going on a road trip to Las Vegas for a bachelor party. The next morning none can remember what happened and one of them is missing. The retracing of their steps allows this film to always be inventive and crazy. It is never boring but rather consistently funny throughout.
The premise of course will never be enough unless it is buoyed by a great cast. Ed Helms in this role officially establishes himself as the latest Daily Show correspondent to fully emerge off the small screen and prove his humor translates to all mediums. Zach Galifianakis is truly the break-out star of this film. He transitions from successful standup to film star as the quirky friend with bad judgment in this film. Bradley Cooper is also a very good straight man and comes off as an abrasive Ed Burns, and that is a very good thing.
The supporting cast is also very funny and brings many memorable moments to the table: Heather Graham, who doesn't seem to get enough work, as the stripper; Rob Riggle as the cop; Mike Epps as Black Doug and of course, Mike Tyson… yes, he's very funny.
With the concept of needing to tell the story in a frame, knowing the blanks would need to be filled in and not needing to go from point A to B and then C, The Hangover excels and is one of the funniest and best comedies to come along in years.
